Eat dessert first. It’s an interesting concept, dontcha think? And, where in the world did it come from anyway? I did a quick search and found variations of it attributed to Jacques Torres, Ernestine Ulmer, and even Helen Keller. And, while some might be using the term in the literal sense, more often than not it will be used in a figurative sense.
While most people understand the importance of a healthy diet, and some people really relish (notice the witty food reference there!) the opportunity to ensure that they get their proper servings of nourishment, dessert is something that is considered a treat – something that we don’t NEED but that we might WANT. “So they don’t really want us to pump ourselves full of carbs prior to taking in our veggies and protein?” you might be asking. Nah. And that’s where the figurative part comes in.
Life as we know it is not guaranteed.
What I mean by that is we were born into this world, and every day that we are alive is a gift. We do our best to keep this thing we call “life” going for as long as possible. However, that life can be taken away from us at any time and with no notice at all. Some don’t get the opportunity to live very long, while others live many years to what we would call a “ripe, old” age.
Why are some called away from this life so quickly while others are here for a long time? That’s a topic for another blog post – and honestly, I don’t profess to know all the answers to those questions. What I do know is that, as I mentioned before, life as we know it is not guaranteed. Is your “Bucket List” filled with things that you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t yet accomplished? What’s holding you back? What are the things that you WANT to do? Do them!
Eat dessert first!
